Welcome to DonorWorks 9.1

Welcome to DonorWorks Constituent Management Software. DonorWorks is a comprehensive suite of programs built around a powerful, efficient database. DonorWorks allows you to maintain and manage the information so vital to growing non-profits. . . membership records, financial information, constituent visits and much more.

This guide will help you install and launch DonorWorks. See the DonorWorks 9.1 Server Setup and Client Setup pages for further instructions.

For more information on using the software, please consult the online Manuals.

System Requirements

Please Note! If you are running DonorWorks 9.1 locally on a stand-alone Macintosh® or Windows® computer, it is considered the database server. System requirements are as follows:

Windows (Server & Client Computers)

Windows XP/2003/Vista or Windows 7, 8 or 10;  512 MB of RAM; 200 MB of disk space + free space for data; TCP/IP network connection (static TCP/IP if server); Color monitor running 1024x768 or larger.

Macintosh (Server & Client Computers)

Mac OS X 10.6 or later: 512 MB of RAM; TCP/IP network connection (static TCP/IP if server); Color monitor running 1024x768 or larger.

Linux

DonorWorks 9.1 is not currently supported as a client or server under Linux.

General Installation Info

NOTE:  These instructions are written for a multi-user, networked environment. If you only use DonorWorks on one computer, that computer is considered both the client and the server; you may ignore any instructions regarding additional client computers.

Important note for those running DonorWorks over a network:  The first computer on which you install and run DonorWorks 9.1 MUST be your database server. You may install DonorWorks on other clients while the server completes installation, but do not launch DonorWorks on any client until the server displays the Login window.

Firewalls

For DonorWorks 9.1 to run, you need to allow access on port 9566 and/or to the PostgreSQL (postgres) and DonorWorks 9.1 (Donorworks.exe) programs. This will need to be done for 3rd-party Windows firewalls (e.g. Norton or Symantec). The built-in Mac OS X firewall must also be configured when multiple clients are using DonorWorks. For the built-in Windows Firewall nothing needs to be done as DonorWorks will configure the firewall appropriately.

Security Software during installation

During the installation process of DonorWorks 9.1 on Windows, you should disable the following items:

  • Firewalls
  • Anti-Virus Software
  • Anti-Spyware
  • Windows Defender
  • User Access Control (UAC)

When installation is complete, you can turn these items back on.
